Secure files are a great way to protect your files that you ONLY want to make available to your members who have access to protected content. Files that are uploaded to Secure Files will NOT be accessible to non-members. This includes if a member shares a link to a page, post or file with someone who is not a member they will NOT be able to access it.
Files that are uploaded to the Secure Files section when inserted or linked to from a protected page or post will then automatically inherit that membership access level. You can have a single Secure File linked to or inserted into a post that is part of multiple membership levels. E.G. if a you have a page on your website that is available to Gold and Platinum members and you insert a Secure Files video onto that page then both Gold and Platinum members will be able to access it.
For regular files that do not need to be secure (meaning it is not required that users are members and logged in to see or view the file) and you plan on using the file for non-protected blog posts and pages do not use Secure Files, upload the file as normal not to the Secure File Uploads section.
There is a 100MB individual file size limit for the online uploader (media manager) if you have files >100MB please FTP them to your site.
Click on the Upload Secure Files (Padlock icon) in the Media Manager section.
You may access Secure Files from the QuickPress section on the Dashboard as shown here or when creating a post/page in the WYSIWYG editor (See below)
When creating a post or page you have the Media Manager options including the Secure Files icon as shown here.
(1) Click on the EM Secure Files Tab. (This is the same as "From Computer" in Secure Files)
(2) This is the label for the section we're in.
(1) Click on the "Select Files" button to locate your file then click the 'Upload' button..
When your upload is complete you will see the file details.
(1) This is the secure file name that can be used to insert the video into a page or post.
(2) This is the full URL string for the file.
You can always come back into the Media Manager to get the full URL of your files if you need to link to them from text or images.
Under the Media > Secure Files menu we have some basic settings in here. In general you will not need to change any settings on this page.
If you FTP your files to your secure folder rather than using the 'Media Manager' to upload them you will most likely want to have those files visible in the Media Manager.
Before they will be visible you need to sync them. To do that click on the link (not visible in this screen shot) See below.
Click on the "this link" shown here.
This will then import any additional files to your Media manager so you can use them with your posts and pages and get the URL's for the files direct via the Media Manager in EM.
